NTI is a transparent splint worn on anterior teeth. 4 out of 10 people clench their jaws or grind their teeth in their sleep. Due to intensive muscle contraction typical to jaw clenching and grinding, pain appears in adjacent tissues, joints and muscles. By reducing the biting force we reduce the immediate cause of pain. It is a specially shaped, silicon liner, designed for treatment of TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorders. Excessive tooth abrasion, difficulties in wide opening of the mouth or clicking heard during jaw opening are the symptoms of the so-called myoarthropathy. Such afflictions are often caused by occlusion irregularities, such as orthodontic defects, excessively high fillings or prosthetic restorations. However, temporomandibular joint disorders are very often caused by overload resulting from excess muscle activity, most often stress-related, called bruxism.
Therefore a TMJ relaxation splint is as solution for those who clench or grind their teeth (most commonly at night), unconsciously reacting to daytime stress.
